Homage to all the mayors since 1978
The ceremony consisted of inaugurating the Gallery of Mayors, a space in the City Hall with the photos of Narcís Serra, Pasqual Maragall, Joan Clos, Jordi Hereu, Xavier Trias and Ada Colau, and an act in the Saló de Cent chamber to award the city’s gold medal to the last four mayors, who had not yet received it.
Chaired by the Mayor, Jaume Collboni, the ceremony was attended by all the mayors with the exception of Pasqual Maragall, who was represented by members of his family.
The portraits in the Gallery of Mayors are framed with a design by Miguel Milà from 1975 and will occupy a space near the Mayor’s Office, the idea being that everybody passing through can remember the most recent antecedents of the city’s governance.
The awarding of the City of Barcelona Gold Medal to the last four mayors, who still had not received it, was approved in February’s full council meeting.
The proposal to award the medal highlights the role that the different municipal governments have had in the image Barcelona offers to the world, and “in leading a shift to adapt to social changes and address the needs of the people of Barcelona”.
